Spring/Fall Fashion Fundraiser

Please join us for one or both of these unique museum experiences

$10 each or $15 for both (payable to BNC), plus the cost of museum admission on day of trip

Tuesday, May 21, 2019 – Jewish Museum of Maryland

Stitching History from the Holocaust brings to life the innovative dress designs of Hedy Strnad. Hedy and her husband Paul originally sent these designs to Paul’s cousins in America as part of their effort to escape Prague in 1939. That effort ultimately failed, and these beautiful dresses serve not only as a unique memorial for a lost talent, but also as a touchstone for discussion of the human cost of the Holocaust and the plight of refugee populations.

Fashion Statement will ask visitors to consider how a man’s black hat can signal religious expression or a fur coat can communicate a woman’s aspirations. Visitors will consider everyday clothing from club jackets to political tee shirts, military and civilian uniforms to “must-have” accessories, and explore how those everyday objects amplify (and sometimes disguise) identity and affiliation.

A docent will take us through these two exhibits at 1:00 pm, followed by an optional tour of the Lloyd Street Synagogue at 2:00 pm. Free for museum members, $5 for non-members. Limited to 25 attendees. Carpools will be arranged at different times to accommodate those who want to first eat at Attman’s and/or those who do not want to stay for the synagogue tour.

Thursday, October 31, 2019 – Maryland Historical Society

Spectrum of Fashion will feature over 3000 original items of fashion covering four centuries. Each piece displayed will have had a genealogical search and background information will be presented.

A docent will take us through this exhibit at 1:00 pm to explain how the exhibit came together, the stories that the pieces tell, and will look some of the highlights of the gallery. Free for museum members, $10 for non-members. Minimum of 10 attendees.

RSVP by sending a check payable to BNC-Baltimore to Rona Greene, 1 Falling Leaf Court, Owings Mills MD 21117. Questions? Call the Fundraising co-chairs Rona Greene 410-252-2118 or Judy Stein 410-484-0278
