Esther Safran Foer

Esther Safran Foer is the past CEO of Sixth & I, a downtown cultural hub and historic synagogue. Under Esther’s leadership Sixth & I created world class programming from book talks with renowned authors to a wide range of musical performances.  Reinvented as a Jewish institution after being a church for 50 years, Sixth & I includes all Jewish denominations studying and observing Jewish holidays under the same roof. Sixth & I has been nationally recognized as    “a new paradigm for Jewish life.” Esther has been personally recognized as one of “The Forward 50” Jewish leaders in the country and last year was named by Washingtonian magazine as one of the most powerful women in Washington, DC.

Matthew Logan

Matthew Logan is the Executive Director of Montgomery County Historical Society, which collects, preserves, interprets, and shares the histories of all of Montgomery County’s residents. Throughout his career as an executive, he has built the capacity and effectiveness of small nonprofit organizations in the Washington, DC metro area. Beginning in 1998, he led Potomac Conservancy, a regional conservation group, through a period of rapid and sustained growth. He later founded and served as the first president of the C&O Canal Trust, an official partner of the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park. With the Trust he developed a series of successful programs, most notably Canal Quarters, which was recognized by the federal Advisory Council on Historic Preservation with its Chairman’s Award for Achievement in Historic Preservation.

Matthew holds Master’s degrees in environment/land use planning and United States history. He lives with his son and daughter in Kensington, Maryland.
