The movie Ahead of Time, and a presentation by Executive Producer Patti Kenner
On Sunday morning, November 13, 2017, we had a wonderful brunch at Norbeck Country Club. Afterward we were inspired by the life of Ruth Gruber – who at the time was 105 years old. Before she turned 100, her friend, Patti Kenner, was determined to create a movie of Ruth Gruber’s life. And Patti did. Patti introduced the d ocumentaryto us and told us of Ruth’s current life. After the viewing, we were able to ask questions.
Ruth Gruber was born in Brooklyn in 1911. She became the youngest Ph.D. in the world before going on to become an international foreign correspondent and photojournalist at age 24. She emerged as the eyes and conscience of the world. With her love of adventure, fearlessness, and powerful intellect Ruth defied tradition in an extraordinary career that spanned more than seven decades. Ruth had unique access and insight into the modern history of the Jewish people.
We saw the young student who while in university in Germany attend a Hitler rally, go to Alaska, become a general to protect her as she aided Jews to escape from the Nazis to come to the US and more.
This wonderful event was chaired by Marlene Goldschmidt and Gail Rubinson.
Ruth Gruber died just after this event, on November 17, 2016.
