Season of Sustainability

Tomorrow is Campus Sustainability Day! Look for stands and events happening around campus to raise awareness about living sustainably at college. It is also national Food Day, so join in on The Big Apple Crunch on the great lawn at 11:50am to support local food choices! BYOA (Bring your own apple!).

Thursday is the SEA coffeehouse! Drop into Chum’s between 9pm-12am, grab some coffee, organic goodies and get ready to be entertained!

November 1st is the deadline for applications for the Brandeis Sustainability Fund. Have a great idea that will help Brandeis become more green? BSF provides grants to support undergraduate sustainability projects on campus. Check it out here.

News from Campus Sustainability Initiative

The Brandeis Campus Sustainability Initiative just issued their most recent newsletter, containing information about environmental efforts going on around campus. Some of the highlights are the LED lights given to first-years, the success of the move-in market and the delivery of recycling bags to upperclassmen by eco-reps. Moreover, the newsletter informs that students can sign up to pick up fresh produce from Spingold Theater every Tuesday through a partnership with Warner Farm. Make sure to check out their newsletter for more information and cool happenings on Brandeis’ campus!

A Night Out with Toxics-Free Nails

With the help of a community grant from the Toxics Use Reduction Institute, the Norfolk County 7 Public Health Coalition is hosting an educational workshop for salon owners, employees and the public to learn how to improve air quality and public health.

Nails6:30 to 7:30 p.m. – Network, pick up gift bags and view exhibits

7:30 to 9 p.m. – Presentations from the Boston Public Health Commission, Brandeis University, raffle and more

  • Learn about the health effects of the so-called “toxic-trio” of formaldehyde, toluene and dibutyl phthalate.
  • Learn what can be done to improve the health of employees and customers.
  • Students from Brandeis University will present results from an air quality study of 20 Boston nail salons from the Environmental Health and Justice Program.

The first 75 attendees will receive canvas gift bags full of safer products such as nail polish, nail polish remover, foot scrubs and more.

Appetizers and refreshments will be provided. The event is free but space is limited so please register at the link below to reserve your seat.

Duke’s Nicholas School of the Environment Virtual Open House!

For any students looking for graduate programs in the environmental field, there is an excellent opportunity to learn more about Duke University’s prestigious Master of Environmental Management or Master of Forestry program coming up in just a few weeks. On January 9th, from 4-6PM, the Nicholas School at Duke will hold an online interactive open house where prospective students can ask questions and decide if environmental graduate school is for them. Take advantage of this great opportunity during break before spring classes begin!
