Faces of GPS: Meet Shannon McCarthy – Associate Director of Admissions and Student Services

Shannon McCarthy HeadshotIf you’re thinking about applying to a program at Brandeis GPS, you should have a conversation with Shannon McCarthy.

In her role as Associate Director of Admissions and Student Services, Shannon McCarthy works with applicants to our graduate programs, guiding them through the admissions process. Once they decide to enroll, Shannon helps them transition to working with a student advisor.

Born and raised in Taunton, MA, Shannon has stayed close to her New England roots. She received a degree in Sociology from Providence College before going immediately on to get her master’s in Higher Education Administration from Boston University.

As an undergrad, it was her internship in student affairs at Rhode Island School of Design that solidified her interest in higher education. After getting her master’s, Shannon worked first in admissions and then in academic counseling. She started at Brandeis GPS just over a month ago and enjoys her role because it is a combination of both.

Shannon wants students to know that she and the rest of the GPS team are available for any questions that they have. It can be challenging to come back to school after being in the workforce, all while juggling having a family and other personal and professional commitments. But the Brandeis GPS team is ready to work with you and help you succeed no matter what you have going on outside of school.

Shannon McCarthy HikingShannon is looking forward to working with students as they are applying and following up with them once they’ve started. She likes getting to see their next steps after they are accepted and continue to watch them be successful. She is also excited for her first graduation ceremony to see all the students get recognized for what they have achieved.

Outside of the office, Shannon loves spending time with her daughter, who’s almost a year old. She also enjoys taking dance and yoga classes and going hiking.

Multichannel Marketing Course – Spring 2018

As part of our Spring 2 course offerings, check out our  Multichannel Marketing Campaigns course. This course is set up as a strategic and practical guide to designing, conducting and measuring multichannel marketing initiatives – for B2B and B2C brands. The course is designed to teach the fundamentals of 21st Century Digital Marketing – based on creating on-going, seamless customer experiences across digital and traditional channels.

Foundational topics covered in this class include the three stages of marketing:

  • The new customer journey, and why the marketing campaign is dead.
  • Developing customer journeys – the fundamentals.
  • Content, channels, and measurement for consumer journeys.

In addition, this course will look at the principles of paid, owned, and earned as converged digital marketing, and the role of diagnosing the channels for acquiring new customers.

Whether you’re already enrolled in the Digital Marketing and Design program at Brandeis GPS or are seeking a one-time professional development opportunity to advance your career, it’s not too late to sign up for an online course. Multichannel Marketing Campaigns does not have any prerequisites and you don’t need to apply to a graduate program to register. The deadline to apply for a Spring 2 course is April 6th.

Making the case for agile project management

Many of today’s organizations seek to build productive work environments where teamwork is encouraged and tasks are completed in a timely yet flexible manner. As the traditional office setting becomes increasingly obsolete, new technologies have allowed colleagues to work together from different time zones and different locations across the world. While companies and clients don’t always have the opportunity to have face-to-face interaction during the development process, Agile Project Management allows for constant communication and integration of changes in a collaborative manner. The goal is to ensure that all stakeholders remain satisfied as they work together toward project completion with input from all parties, and without delaying the development process. Agile Project Management empowers project stakeholders to collaborate and execute a plan while quickly responding to changes in the industry.

To help project managers adapt to and embrace this dynamic approach, Brandeis GPS offers an online Agile Project Management course that covers characteristics and delivery frameworks. The course also explores how agile methods differ from traditional project management, along with how to recognize projects that may be suitable for agile techniques. Topics covered include Scrum values, roles and deliverables; additional agile and iterative methods; scalability and enterprise-wide considerations.

Those interested in the course who do not yet wish to pursue a full master’s degree can still participate. At Brandeis GPS, you can take up to two online courses without officially enrolling in a program. This is a great opportunity to get to know our programs and approach to online learning. Submitting academic transcripts to grad school

At Brandeis GPS, we want to make your application process as smooth as possible. Our admissions team is always available to answer any questions and look forward to guiding you through your application process. With our online application, you can directly upload your resume and statement of goals, and send requests for letters of recommendation right to our online system.

One item that does need to be submitted outside of the online application is your official transcript. Here’s some FAQs we often get about submitting transcripts:

Does Brandeis GPS accept electronic transcripts?

Yes! We do accept electronic transcripts, as long as they are official. This is the easiest and fastest method for both the applicant and us!

How should I send electronic transcripts?

Provide your school(s) with our email address: gps@brandeis.edu. We will confirm once the documents are received.

What address should I use for paper transcripts?

These should be sent directly from the school(s) to our mailing address:

How can I check the status of my application items?

At any time, you can login to your applicant status page once your application is submitted to see what items are pending: Login

Yes, we require official transcripts for all colleges/universities attended.
