FINAL BLOG REFLECTION

Wednesday, May 5th, 2010

1. Thing I learnt – There are a ridiculous number of free sound files on Soundtrack Pro. This is amazing. Makes my life so much easier. Wish I had actually done more with them before.
2. I wish I could control volume better. I just never seem to get it as smooth as I would like to.

Learning the hard way

Monday, April 26th, 2010

So I am still not sure I am doing the saving correctly/uploading correctly, but I definitely have learnt a few things.

1. Make sure it is saved as a .mov file.
2. Make sure that you set your damned scratch discs.
3. Save things in a folder that Sarah can access, rather than one only you know about.

The learning process

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

Good lordddddd. THis has been a difficult process.

Things I learnt the hard way

1. Set your scratch discs – it is a pain in the neck to have to reconnect the media (that was also illuminating – you can reconnect, so don’t panic)
2. Every time you “save as” and/or move the files into the shared area… RENAME IT, otherwise you might COMPLETELY DELETE YOUR PROJECT. I did that. Luckily I did it an hour before.
3. Sometimes it doesn’t like audio files. Don’t know why but it crapped out on my mp3s…

Yeah, so that’s what I faced. What was good… I did it. I actually did it. I also loved how you balance audio and visual. Fades are hard?

1 insightful thing I learned this week in lab, or a connection I made between the lab and one of my other Journalism classes

- I know this sounds silly, but I really enjoyed figuring out how to CG. Also I think its has been excellent for me to actually see SWAP in action.

1 thing I am struggling with or have a question about

- I can’t quite get picture transitions down and worry that my SWAP is too forced and not particularly interesting. Oh well, I was always built more for radio anyways…

Reflections weekly

  • I really enjoyed the TV headlines – I learnt that talking quickly at first is really good to make sure that you can get through it, and being under-time is really relaxing, and allows you to go over comfortably.
  • I really had a lot of problems with B-Roll. I still have NO IDEA how to write it or what I should write. I am extremely uncomfortable with writing it.
  • Also, I am really unclear on how to make transitions between the pictures not look forced. SWAP is really hard.

The proper way to cut out the PPPPPPPPP sounds. Really awesome.

  • 1 thing I am struggling with or have a question about

I still just wish I was speaking correctly. I had a rough day, but it sucks to do something you thought youd do right incorrectly. Bummer man.
