What happens when we expect excellence from our students and teach how to give critique that is “kind, specific and helpful”? In this video, a short highlight from his presentation at the Mandel Center’s annual Teacher Forum this winter, Ron Berger of Expeditionary Learning shows the kind of superb work a first grader can produce when he has good feedback from peers and support in working through multiple drafts.

In his presentation, Ron explained why, to him, “true scholarship is deeply a character trait.” Preparing and expecting students to produce excellent work is as important a part of their education as anything else, as we see in this next video.
