Welcome! The goal of the site is to introduce viewers to the habits international cinema uses to represent poverty on screen. Contextual overviews outline the important issues for each continent and provide a starting point for understanding the film culture of that region. Annotated film clips examine and explicate cinematic conventions. The Digital Atlas is a Digital Humanities project (still a work-in-progress) which plots filmic analysis onto an interactive global map.
