National Cohesion in Insecure States: Experiences from Africa

From October 15th to the 19th, Michael Noureddine Kassa will be in residence as Brandeis as a Distinguished Visitor of the International Center for Ethic, Justice and Public Life. his Keynote Address will be on Thursday, October 18th, from 5:00 to 6:30 at the Rapaporte Treasure Hall at the Goldfarb Library. SJSP Upcoming Events

1. Join in the International Day of Peace Festival! On September 21st at t 2pm in Geller Conference Room you are invited to hear Stefan Schindler’s lecture Trifecta from Hell: Despoliation, Proliferation, Klepto-Capitalism. A panel discussion following. Then, from 4-6pm, FREE BEN AND JERRY’S ICE CREAM, vegetarian snacks, Company B, WBRS Music, and other fun activities on Chapels Field.

2. Movie screening of Jai Bhim Comrade, followed by Q&A with Indian film maker, Anand Pawardhan. October 4th, 7-10pm in the SCC Theater–food will be provided!

3. Save the Date for Soli Sorabjee Lecture in South Asian Studies, “Constructing Fictions: Prose, Politics, and Pakistan” — Wednesday, October 17th at 5pm in Mandel Center Forum.

4. To any students interested in coordinating a short presentation at Brandeis for the MEDLIFE (Medicine, Education, and Development for Low Income Families) and their One Billion+ Campaign on either Tuesday, September 25th or Wednesday, September 26th please contact Elizabeth Shank at 207-433-0576.

Social Justice and Social Policy Announcements …from your UDR!

Hello SJSP-ers!

I hope everyone enjoyed their summer and that things are off to a great start! My name is Becca Miller and I’m your SJSP Undergraduate Department Representative! I’m a senior studying Social Justice and Social Policy, Sociology and Women and Gender Studies! I’m here to talk with you about any/all SJSP related things.. classes, class registration, the minor program, events on campus, social justice topics, what people do with SJSP minors after Brandeis, where to find free food on campus or whatever else you can think of… So feel free to contact me!
I’ll be sending out emails with upcoming SJSP events and other announcements so stay tuned for some awesome events this semester.

1. Brandeis Labor Coalition & Jobs with Justice presents a forum on the recent acceptance by the Heller School of 5 million dollars from Wal-Mart —> TONIGHT, 7pm, Polaris Lounge! (PIZZA!!)
2. The Art of Dialogue: a conversation with coexistence facilitator Farhat Agbaria. Wednesday, September 19th – 12:15-1:45pm Heller G-4. Free and open to the Brandeis community.
