2020-2022 Board of Officers

Welcome to a new BNC Somerset year! We are so excited to kick off this event-packed year and we have a great lineup of activities planned. Take some time to get to know our board of officers and don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions.

Co-president and Bulletin – Nancy Clancy

Native to Erie, PA., Nancy moved Randolph/Denville area. Her varied career includes being a public school art teacher, child rearing, Director of Randolph Community/Adult School, founder and administrator of District School-Age Child Care, Summer Camps, and Summer Enrichment Programs. She has also been active in the League of Women Voters and PTA. She and her husband, John, have 2 children and 5 grandchildren. She eagerly said, “I admire the mission statement of BNC and want to take an active role helping our chapter achieve those goals. The two best thing about BNC are the very friendly, helpful people and the stimulating programs.”


Co-president and Monthly Magazine – Mindy Morris

A native of Fair Lawn, she moved to Somerset in 1992. She worked for the MDA and the Leukemia Society organizing fund raising events including the Jerry Lewis Telethon.  Then she joined the corporate world working for video communications organizations in sales/marketing, being an assistant to the president and planning company events such as summer picnics, team-building programs, seminars, and holiday parties. She is also active in Hadassah and the Somerset Run Women’s Club, as well as volunteering at the Center for Great Expectations. In regards to her family, Mindy notes that “I am unfortunately a widow, but have the best step-son, step-daughter-in-law and step-dog.” She adds, “I am excited to be working with Nancy as Co-President of this great chapter. I am looking forward to developing programs including innovative events, continuing study groups, unique trips and other opportunities to support the BNC Mission.”


VP Programming – Chris Retz

Chris had a career as managing editor of a scholarly press, but now volunteers in several historic preservation organizations. She is also an active member of the Catholic Community of St. Matthias, for which she writes publications and chairs the parish’s Loaves & Fishes ministry. She and her husband Dave have 2 children and 5 grandchildren. “I joined Brandeis because I am interested in ensuring quality educational opportunities for our youth. I treasure the many friends I have met since joining Brandeis, and enjoy trips to places I wouldn’t otherwise visit.”


Co-Vice-President Membership – Barbara Oxfeld

Barbara Eule Oxfeld is co-chair of our membership committee. A Newark, NJ native, she grew up in West Orange. Her career has comprised various positions in education including teacher, supervisor, principal, Barbara is a volunteer for Jewish Family Service; member education committee of her synagogue’ and a member of BNC. She was married to Dr. Milton Oxfeld (deceased), and has two children Gail and Gary, as well as four grandsons Max, Daniel, Sam, and Noah. “My daughter is an alumna of Brandeis. I joined BNC a number of years ago because I wished to support the university and its mission.” Barbara enjoys attending theater and ballet performances in NYC.


Co-Vice-President Membership – Nancy Okun

Nancy Okun is co-chair of our membership committee. A registered pharmacist, she is a native of Perth Amboy, and lived in Basking Ridge for a number of years. An avid birder, she and her husband Fred have 4 children and 9 grandchildren. “I love the educational lectures that Brandeis offers and want to promote these programs to encourage ‘forever’ learning.”



Recording Secretary – Irna Rosenberg

Irna Rosenberg is a NJ native, being born in Newark. She has lived all over the US, including residences in San Francisco, Chicago, Cincinnati, and Memphis. She enjoyed a career as a freelance court reporter. She and her husband Leon have 2 children and 5 grandchildren. In addition to being a Brandeis officer, she enjoys membership in Hadassah; Somerset Run Women’s Club; Temple Sholom, Bridgewater, NJ. “I joined BNC because I believe in their goals, among them education and research into degenerative diseases.”


Corresponding Secretary, Cards & Tributes Chair – Pam Teiltelbaum

Pamela is a native of northeastern Pennsylvania.  She came to NJ to pursue the field of education and she worked in public schools for 30 years, first as a Spanish teacher, then a school counselor, and finally as a director of guidance services.  She and her husband Stu have two sons who work in the fields of technology and government. Pamela joined Brandeis to socialize and to help raise funds for the excellent programs that Brandeis University affords students.


Treasurer – John A. Clancy

Graduate engineering degree recipient who ended up as VP Information Systems for Revlon’s International Division where he traveled the world managing 13 computer centers. Retired in 2001 and has enjoyed genealogical research projects for 43 families. Also enjoys wood working and, most recently, watercolor painting. Moved to SR in 2015 and loves our community. He has two daughters and 5 grandchildren. He is looking forward to working with the board in achieving the chapter’s financial goals.



EllieRegistrar – Ellie Goldman

A Boston native, Ellie was co-owner of a food distribution company and an administrative assistant to the executive director of a computer network company. She is active in the Women’s Club of Somerset Run. She and her husband Michael have 2 children and 5 grandchildren. “I enjoy the camaraderie and friendship with other members, as well as raising funds for research on neurodegenerative diseases.”


Communications Chair – Bob Siroty


DorothyBulletin  – Dorothy Gitter

A native of the Bronx, Dorothy lived in Old Bridge, NJ for many years where she worked for the Social Security Administration. She notes that she is “a widow and has 2 daughters and sons-in-law and 2 grandchildren.” What is her favorite thing about BNC? “I enjoy the activities/trips and study groups as well as the many interesting and congenial people I have met through Brandeis.”



Social Justice – Margo Siroty

Margo grew up in Brooklyn before moving to Randolph, NJ. There she worked as a social worker. Previously she had been active in the League of Women’s Voters, CASA, Board of NJ Assn. of School Social Workers, and Literacy Volunteers. She has three children and three grandchildren. Margo stated she loves the commitment to education, service, charity, stimulating programs and member congeniality that BNC offers.



marilynSocial Justice and Book & Author Luncheon – Marilyn Altman

Marilyn also the chapter’s national liaison. A NYC native, she lived in several places along the east coast before settling in Somerset. Her career has included Jewish communal service, community organization, and development. She and her husband have 2 children, and 5 grandchildren. “My goal is for Brandeis University to maintain its high standards and open policy of admission based on merit, not race, religion, or national origin. The people I’ve met are the favorite things about BNC.”

JoyceDining for Donations – Joyce Biegen

As former resident of Edison, Joyce was an administrative assistant. She was active in the Terra Nova Garden Cub in Edison, in which she has served as sunshine and membership chairs. She has 3 children. “I enjoy our talks and trips.”




TobyDining for Donations – Toby Marks

A native of Newark, Toby taught 5th grade in Hillside, and ESL at the 1st Avenue School in Newark. She was both the president and membership VP for the Maplewood-South Orange Women’s American ORT. Her daughter is an attorney in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia and her son-in-law works in debt collection and process serving. “Brandeis National Committee encourages members to participate. I joined for socialization and education. BNC has excellent programs and I support their scholarship program.”


judyNational Board/Immediate Past President and Nominations – Judy Dorfman

Judy is a Brooklyn native currently living in Somerset Run. She has worked as a teacher and  catering coordinator, but now serves as a court municipal mediator.  She and her husband Joel are the parents of three, and grandparents to 6. “My goals for this presidency are to increase chapter membership, add more varied, new, and interesting programs, initiate a chapter website/blog, get more members actively involved, get our chapter further exposed to the unique opportunities offered by the Brandeis National Committee, and create chapter by-laws.”


IrisPresident Emerita – Iris Kislin

A Bronx native, she resided in North Brunswick before moving to Somerset. A former talent agent, she has boundless energy for her many volunteer activities, which include a trustee of the Board of Directors at the Franklin Township Public Library, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Jewish Federation of Middlesex County, and many years as a vice president of the National Council of Jewish Women-Middlesex section. A “widow, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend,” Iris’s goals are “to support Brandeis’s mission and to fund raise for the university.” She also wants to offer “interesting and educational programs to the community as well as helping her friends and neighbors.”
