“Don’t worry about being successful but work towards being significant & the success will naturally follow.”—Oprah Winfrey
We saw this quote recently & thought immediately about how appropriate it is to our work for Brandeis. Since our Installation on June 28, our Board has been working very hard to come up with activities & speakers of significance for our chapter. We think we have been very successful so far, as this Bulletin will attest.
We’re hoping that you will try some new programs & maybe even some outside of your comfort zone. Bring a new friend & introduce her/him to the unique programs we have to choose from.
As you have been hearing, our Board is now headed by a Leadership Council. Judy Dorfman & Pam Teitelbaum are co-presidents with Marilyn Altman, Harriet Cohen & Chris Retz chairing major committees; Marilyn – Social Justice & Liaison to National & Regional, Harriet – Trips & Programming & Chris – Study Groups & Editor of our new web site/blog. With the help of a wonderful volunteer software engineer & a few tech-savvy members, we are hoping to have our BNC Somerset Chapter web site live within the next few months.
Marilyn & Margo Siroty have explained our Social Justice programs in their article. We have already begun our work with the Center for Great Expectations (CGE) by providing a wonderful luncheon for the residents & their families for their Family Day in July. It was a huge success. As the seasons change, we are hoping to help them by doing a “packing party.” This involves packing away the current season’s clothing & unpacking appropriate clothing for the new season for the mothers & children.
Our Board has been working together diligently to institute some new events & procedures. As this is a learning experience for all of us, we ask that you be tolerant of our imperfections. We are very anxious to grow & strengthen our chapter & have it reflect the ideas & desires of our membership. If you have any thoughts that you would like to share with us or activities that you would like us to explore, we are very open to receiving them. Just contact any of us on the Board in person, by phone or email. We will be delighted to hear from you.
All of us look forward to welcoming you at our exciting new study groups & trips.
Judy & Pam
