Vigée LeBrun: Part 1: “The Glory Years”

The irrepressible duo of Chris Retz and Barbara Yaney will step into character as Marie Antoinette
and Vigée LeBrun, respectively, to give a lively presentation about the doomed queen and
to see part I of a wonderful DVD about this famous post-Rococo painter, who was the only
woman admitted to the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture.

Wednesday, February 8, 2017, 2:00PM “Gun Violence: A Mother’s Story”

Our speaker, Lois Schaffer, is an advocate for gun control, and has experienced firsthand the
incredible hardship and pain of losing a child to gun violence.
Ms. Schaffer is bringing copies of her book, “The Unthinkable” to donate to attendees.

The Manischewitz factory is a working facility. At the time of our tour they will be producing
matzo, gefilte fish, and soup.

Experience healthy Italian cuisine at this delightful market/cooking school. Our visit, during
which we will share the food, culture, and language of Italy, will include a demonstration and 3-
course lunch, after which there is time on your own to explore their on-site specialty market.

Highlights of September – December, 2016 Programs

Tuesday, September 20, 2016,11:30AM “University on Wheels”

One of the advantages of being a BNC member is our access to outstanding Brandeis faculty such as our speaker for this event, Thomas Doherty. He is a professor of American Studies who was recently recognized by the Motion Picture Academy as an Academy film scholar. He will present a program on “The Great American (Television) Novel” His presentations to other chapters were found to be entertaining and knowledgeable.

Wednesday, October 19, 2016, 9:00AM “A Day in Historic Bethlehem”

Our day begins with orientation at the Visitors’ Center in this lovely old town. Next stop is Kememer Museum of Decorative Arts, where we have a docent-led tour.
We’ll have lunch in an historic house after which we’ll tour the 1741 Gemeinhaus, Bethlehem’s oldest building and a National Historic Landmark. It houses a museum that tells the stories of the Moravian founders. This five-story log structure, the largest 18th-century log building in the United States served as home, school, church, and workplace during the community’s earliest days.

You may be surprised and delighted as he shares his extensive knowledge of antiques and collectibles. Maybe YOU have hidden treasures of which you were not aware-hidden riches maybe found all over. Think of this event as Antiques Roadshow-Somerset, NJ version.

A tribute to the world’s greatest tenor. This is a docuconcert paying homage to Caruso by taking the audience on a musical journey through places, cities and songs that made Caruso an international star. Audiences have raved about this.
