Archived Ad: Seeking Advice on Breaking Into Foreign Affairs

I study international and global studies and American studies here, and spent time traveling and studying abroad. I have experience working and volunteering in Ireland and Brazil, and speak Hebrew and Portuguese. I am interested in pursuing a path in foreign affairs and international conflict, and would welcome opportunities to travel and work abroad. I am curious how Brandeis alumni currently working in these areas broke into the field after college. After speaking to professors and people in the industry, there appears to be a consensus that without previous experience it is very hard to get your foot in the door. Being a full time student for my whole life, I am confident in my abilities but have not held a full time job in the field. What paths have alumni taken to get where they are? Thank you for your time, and any advice and wisdom is appreciated.
