I have decided to devote my life to fighting gender inequality. I have some savings of my own and family financial supports, but it wouldn’t be enough to tackle this issue in China. I would like to operate a feminist non-governmental organization in Asia; however I need some guidance in terms of its establishment, funding, etc. I would also like advice on whether it is necessary for me to obtain a Master’s degree in business or education to better achieve my goal.

I am a senior on track to graduate in May. I’m seeking advice for my job search. I am interested in food access and food production. I would love to speak to someone who works in food justice on the policy level or in a think tank. I would like a job that teaches me new skills such as research or a job that hones my grant writing skills.
I’ve worked on a farm doing field work as well as coordinating a low-income market. I also conducted a price-value analysis of the CSA model of the farm that I worked at v. other local, organic vendors. Additionally, I have some experience in grant writing.
I’m writing this because I am struggling to find a job that is both in my field of interest and that I am qualified for. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I am a senior double majoring in anthropology and music, with a minor in classical studies. Since I am graduating in May 2016, and have little to no clue about how to proceed forward, I would absolutely love any advice, knowledge, past experiences, stories, general information or tidbits of brainstorming guidance. Seriously. Any and everything is more than welcome!
Besides my studies, I am also passionate about community service and non-profit work. I have been a coordinator for the Waltham Group since freshman year, and have spent the past six summers working with underprivileged youth. I’ve also run the gamut in terms of summer work, from a camp counselor in Cambridge, MA, to a volunteer in Bangalore, India, to working on an archaeological dig in Kabri, Israel. Since I have been somewhat around the world, I am not too picky in terms of location either.
If anyone has any advice in the fields of anthropology, music, archaeology, classical studies, non-profit, international development or anything that just seems fun and creative, I am all ears!

I just finished my last semester at Brandeis and want to work in fashion, ideally, with a fashion magazine or a PR firm with an emphasis on luxury.
I have previously interned with Oscar de la Renta and Vogue India as a sales and marketing intern, respectively. In addition, while at Brandeis, I was one of the recipients of the 2014 YMA Fashion Fund Scholarship award.
I’m just beginning my job search and would love to conduct some informational interviews and glean any wisdom from alumns. I’d love any advice or guidance from alumns who have worked in the industry or know of someone who has. In addition, any kind words of support and encouragement while undertaking the daunting task of applying to jobs would be much appreciated! Thank you!

My name is Samantha Daniels and I am currently a senior majoring in women’s and gender studies. My professional experience has fallen under two categories: outreach/education and counseling-type roles. I am particularly passionate about sexual and domestic violence awareness and survivor services.
During a summer internship at Jewish Vocational Service in Boston, I designed a vocational English curriculum for newly arrived refugees. Each day, I would give the teacher the lesson plan I created. I now work for the Brandeis Office of Prevention Services. In this role, I coordinate sexual assault prevention education programming and conduct outreach to student organizations and other university departments. I am also beginning to develop curriculum.
Last fall, I was one of four students who worked to develop the Brandeis Rape Crisis Center, where I served as Volunteer Coordinator and as a peer counselor. I held office hours for survivors who wanted a safe space to talk. Currently, I serve as a Community Advisor. I serve as a support system for my residents in their times of need.
I have loved each of these positions. I am seeking opportunities that are either similar to the work I do at the Office of Prevention Service or to the work I did at the Rape Crisis Center. While I am passionate about prevention education programming, I also am very fulfilled by counseling roles. I am looking to work at a nonprofit or in higher ed. Many of the jobs that have interested me are masters preferred and I would love advice on how to enter the field. I would also love advice bout entering the field of clinical social work. Thank you for your time!

My name is Madeline Rosenberg and I am a senior graduating in May 2016 studying Health: Science, Society and Policy and Environmental Studies. I have strong passions for public health, environmental studies, sociological phenomenon, and art, and have channeled these interests into social science research, writing, and reading.
My academic and work experiences are varied: I have had the opportunity to be a member of the Environmental Health and Justice JBS; a research assistant for a senior fellow at the Schuster Institute for Investigative Journalism; a research intern for a documentary series with Warrior Poets; a research assistant for a scholar at the Women’s Studies Research Center; and a thesis candidate with the HSSP department focused on the relationship between tattoos, college age women, and health.
After reflecting on these experiences, I am gripped by and subsequently hoping to pursue work in the fields of journalism (written, broadcast, documentary), film/TV, and publishing.
For someone whose formal academic areas of study are different from these specific career paths, what should my next steps be? How do I catch up on knowledge of these fields that I would have studied in a classroom setting? Where should I be looking for jobs? How should I go about becoming a more competitive candidate to production companies, journalistic and news companies and organizations, and publishing firms?
Any advice regarding these fields or questions is greatly appreciated. Thank you very much in advance for your time!

I am a current senior searching for a year-long entry level job after graduation beginning in July 2016. I am interested in either clinical research or public health initiatives involving nutrition. I have a passion for medicine, public health, nutrition, and pediatrics. I have a wealth of clinical knowledge I can bring to the table, being a nationally registered EMT and having shadowed surgeons and an internal medicine doctor. I also have worked with young children for the past four out of five summers. Additionally, I have taken several public health courses including topics such as epidemiology and American healthcare. I am planning on taking psychological statistics next semester. I am unsure where or how to start my search and am looking forward to any suggestions and advice the alumni community may have.

I am a senior graduating in May, majoring in Business and American Studies and minoring in Journalism. I am looking for entry-level positions in public relations, preferably in the Boston area. I am particularly interested in creative public relations and the media industry. I have interned at a public relations firm in New Jersey for two summers, and interned at Hot Press, a music magazine in Dublin, Ireland last spring while I studied abroad there. At Brandeis, I have been actively involved with The Justice, and have worked for the Women’s Studies Research Center as a research assistant, as well as with the English Language Programs office as a mentor and English tutor. For my American Studies honors thesis, I am researching and writing about animation during World War II. As you can see, I have varied interests and experience and am trying to find a good fit for me for after graduation. I have started the process of job searching, but I want to make sure that I am looking at all possible opportunities. If you have any career advice or public relations connections in Boston, I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to talk to you. Thank you for your consideration.
Hi, I’m a career changer trying to make my way into dentistry from social work. I am a Brandeis graduate with a major in history and an Independent Interdisciplinary Major in urban studies. After graduation I completed the [IN]City Summer Institute at the University of California, Berkeley, and participated in an Israel internship program at a Jerusalem think-tank that promoted public policy. Upon returning to Boston, where I now live, I worked as a project archivist at Boston University’s Howard Gotlieb Archival Research Center. Recently I researched and co-wrote an article titled, “Resistance and Rebirth in Lower Roxbury: How an Anti-Highway Movement Empowered a Neighborhood,” that has been accepted for publication in the journal America’s Changing Neighborhoods.
I am currently looking for an entry level urban planning position. My commitment to the field leans toward the areas of transit planning, land use, and historic preservation. I am also interested in advocating for improved public transportation through policy development.
I would greatly appreciate any insight and advice on how I could enter the field of urban planning. Thank you in advance.
I am a third-year student majoring in neuroscience and psychology. Medicine and biomedical research are careers I have strongly considered but ultimately decided against. I still wish to improve peoples’ health and quality of life, but just at the population level. My experiences include research in health psychology (Brandeis lab) and immunology (NIH/NIDDK internship at Stanford). I have also been a Teaching Assistant in a social science statistics course. The most rewarding aspects of these jobs have been collaborating and working as a team, as well as interpreting data. Therefore I am considering a career involving study design and data analysis. I am now seeking to transition into the field of public health. At the moment, I am planning on working for a few years before pursuing an MPH (epi/biostats). Advice on entering public health and maximizing my future experiences before graduate school would be greatly appreciated. It would be extremely helpful to talk to alums about what they are doing and how they got there. I would also love to hear about any summer openings or opportunities you think I should know about. Positions in a health department or clinical research opportunities are of particular interest to me. Looking forward to hearing from you!

I am a recent Brandeis alumna who is having difficulty finding work in research. Though as a pre-med student I have a strong science background, I majored in psychology (with a minor in computer science) rather than neuroscience (which I find far more satisfying and engaging). I am now looking to gain practical experience participating in neuroscience (or related biology) research before applying to graduate programs to gain a better understanding of the realities of a career as a researcher as well as to improve my scientific foundation and expand my research skill repertoire. I have found my major to be quite limiting–though I do have science coursework, I have struggled to find research positions because my major disqualifies me from the majority of lab positions I have come across and I worry I will not be able to get the experience I need to prepare me for graduate studies. I would love to be contacted by someone who can give me advice on how I can, having majored in psychology, reposition myself for a scientific career and make this transition– it would be extremely useful to speak to someone who has made this jump. I would especially love to be contacted by someone who can connect me with a potential employer or even an internship.

I particularly enjoyed my Geographic Information System courses, so I might be interested in pursuing a career in geospatial analysis. Any advice or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
