Junior seeking alums to explore fields of digital marketing/art for social change

This is Nicole Zamora, a junior majoring in business and psychology and minoring in creativity, the arts and social transformation. So far, I have identified a deep interest in digital marketing, personal development/advancement, and using art as a vehicle for social change. As I plan for an internship next summer, I would like to connect with people who are in either of those fields to learn more about their experience. I will use these insights to clarify what career path I will further explore this summer and to find out if there is an overlap between any of my interests.

Additionally, feel free to share any internship or career-related opportunities that could help narrow my focus.

Thank you in advance for reading this!

First year with interests in art history and neuroscience seeks alumni in museum/urban design roles

Hi, I’m a first-year grappling between two polar fields: neuroscience and art history. I would really love to connect with any alumni currently working in creative spheres—specifically those relating to curation, museum direction, or urban design—to learn about what your current position entails, and the path that you took to get to it. Any and all insight is appreciated!

Advice on breaking into screenwriting for TV and film

I am looking to enter the world of film and TV, with a particular interest in screenwriting and comedies. I have worked at the Rhode Island International Film Festival, and am currently interning with WGBH’s Antiques Roadshow. I would love to hear about advice on breaking into this field after graduation, as well as more about the film scene in specific locations, as I am wondering about a potential relocation.

Archived Ad: Visual retailer seeking artistic outlet

I’ve worked at the women’s retailer Anthropologie for the past 2.5 years building and creating interior installations and window displays of varying scales. I employ a wide variety of materials, practices, and processes in my work (both professionally and personally) and would like to learn more about professions where my skill set can be employed. I’m definitely done with retail for now and looking for something less transient.

I can see myself going in a multitude of directions ranging from interior design, set design, prop design, artisan apprenticeships, furniture building, historical preservation and replication, freelance work and commissions.

I would love to connect with alumni who have experience in any of those fields (or related ones!) and learn more about why you love it as I determine my next career move.

Archived Ad: Creative junior using art to empower youth

I am a junior majoring in anthropology and minoring in creativity, the arts, and social transformation. I am a creative thinker with an ability to recognize the unique talents and leadership qualities that my peers have in order to help them gain more self-empowerment. Born and raised in Somerville, MA, I have watched gentrification unfold in my hometown and seen thousands of Somerville residents forced to move out due to rising housing costs. With this experience in hand, I would like to continue pursuing my interest in supporting youth development and the arts in order to help fight the negative effects of gentrification anywhere in the United States, for this is a national trend. I want to know what kind of career paths would allow me to pursue these issues, and whether receiving additional schooling beyond my Bachelor’s degree would be essential in pursuing this work. Thank you!

Archived Ad: Artist seeks advice on pursuing art outside of 9-5

Hello! I am a senior studying studio art and computer science with a minor in English. I have been lucky enough to find a job that allows me to combine all three, but I’m interested in pursuing painting on the side as well. I would appreciate any advice you may have for working and establishing myself as an artist while also working full time.

Archived Ad: Artist & Computer Scientist Seeks Internship Advice

I’m a little lost as to what I should look for in a job search. I love my studio art major and I have experience with graphic design, but I also study computer science. I like the idea of combining these two things in front-end design, but I also love working with people – especially kids. I taught in a museum a few years ago and really enjoyed it. I am also interested in marketing/design. I need to start thinking about an internship for the summer, but I don’t know where to start – especially with all of these things I think I’d like to do. I’d appreciate any advice!

Archived Ad: Anthropology Major Seeks Undergrad Experience

Greetings to the Brandeis Alumni. My name is Marcelo Brociner and I am a sophomore here at Brandeis. I am an Anthropology major with a minor in Creativity, the Arts, and Social Transformation (CAST). I wanted to ask any Anthropology majors out there (perhaps Sociology as well) what sort of first-hand experience I should seek out while I am still an undergraduate. I am pursuing a career in music after college, but during/after that journey, I plan to work as an anthropologist. I am doing a study tour in Vietnam next semester which is going to be fascinating, but I was curious to know if anyone knew of any specific projects I could undertake. Thank you for taking your time to read/respond to this inquiry. Have a wonderful day!

Archived Ad: Senior Seeking Theater Business Leads

I am a graduating senior majoring in Theater And English, minoring in Business. I have had a passion for theater since I was small, and Brandeis has led me to combine this love for theater with the administration and eventual management of a theater company. I enjoyed a successful internship this past summer at a NYC theater company where I was able to work in the field as a communications intern. I have also volunteered at a Shakespeare company where I learned the business of box office and sales. My volunteer work at the Hillel Theater Group (this year as President) has enabled me to learn first hand the importance of sales, marketing, teamwork and a quality product. My LinkedIn profile provides my resume. I would appreciate any advice, leads or connections.

Archived Ad: Graduating Senior Seeking Advice on Opportunities in London

I am a Studio Arts major looking to get to London. I am open minded about job options (though preferably something creative and in the arts–visual display for retail and museum opportunities, specifically) and wondering how an American without EU work papers or citizenship can find employment in the UK. Work for a global company and hope to get transferred? Are there companies in England that recruit Americans? Would greatly appreciate strategy suggestions and advice!

I am a Studio Art (painter) major graduating this May. I am also the Marketing and Communications intern at Hiatt Career Center, President of the Student Committee for the Rose Art Museum, and a Roosevelt Fellow (peer academic advisor for first year students). I would love to hear from alums and parents who also have BAs in Fine Arts and have pursued careers in visual arts, museums, galleries, arts non-profits and higher education. What kinds of paths did you take to get to where you are today? What cities are best for young artists? As a person dedicated to making art, how did/do you manage to earn a living while making your art? For those who did not go down a studio route, how did you get involved in the museum or gallery world? What kinds of opportunities exist in the marketing and communications fields for the art world?

Archived Ad: Preserve. Conserve. Restore.

Creatively inclined Studio Arts major, class of 2014, seeking advice and guidance from alumni with careers in preservation, conservation and restoration. I was involved with an art replication project over the summer in Poland and had a fantastic experience. I would love to know if there are more opportunities like that out there and to learn more about what is involved in a preservation/restoration/conservation career. I’m also interested in working abroad, so I’m also eager to hear from people who have international experience in any artistic capacity (i.e. museum administration, residencies, curatorial experience, graduate school, full-time/part-time artist). Do you have any suggestions or tips on how to navigate the international art world? Could you share your professional timeline with me so I can better understand how arts careers can evolve?
