Junior seeking alums to explore fields of digital marketing/art for social change

This is Nicole Zamora, a junior majoring in business and psychology and minoring in creativity, the arts and social transformation. So far, I have identified a deep interest in digital marketing, personal development/advancement, and using art as a vehicle for social change. As I plan for an internship next summer, I would like to connect with people who are in either of those fields to learn more about their experience. I will use these insights to clarify what career path I will further explore this summer and to find out if there is an overlap between any of my interests.

Advice on breaking into screenwriting for TV and film

I have worked at the Rhode Island International Film Festival, and am currently interning with WGBH’s Antiques Roadshow. I’ve worked at the women’s retailer Anthropologie for the past 2.5 years building and creating interior installations and window displays of varying scales. I employ a wide variety of materials, practices, and processes in my work (both professionally and personally) and would like to learn more about professions where my skill set can be employed. I’m definitely done with retail for now and looking for something less transient.

I can see myself going in a multitude of directions ranging from interior design, set design, prop design, artisan apprenticeships, furniture building, historical preservation and replication, freelance work and commissions.

I am a junior majoring in anthropology and minoring in creativity, the arts, and social transformation. I am a creative thinker with an ability to recognize the unique talents and leadership qualities that my peers have in order to help them gain more self-empowerment. Born and raised in Somerville, MA, I have watched gentrification unfold in my hometown and seen thousands of Somerville residents forced to move out due to rising housing costs. With this experience in hand, I would like to continue pursuing my interest in supporting youth development and the arts in order to help fight the negative effects of gentrification anywhere in the United States, for this is a national trend. I want to know what kind of career paths would allow me to pursue these issues, and whether receiving additional schooling beyond my Bachelor’s degree would be essential in pursuing this work. I’m a little lost as to what I should look for in a job search. I love my studio art major and I have experience with graphic design, but I also study computer science. I like the idea of combining these two things in front-end design, but I also love working with people – especially kids. I taught in a museum a few years ago and really enjoyed it. I am also interested in marketing/design. I need to start thinking about an internship for the summer, but I don’t know where to start – especially with all of these things I think I’d like to do. I have had a passion for theater since I was small, and Brandeis has led me to combine this love for theater with the administration and eventual management of a theater company. I enjoyed a successful internship this past summer at a NYC theater company where I was able to work in the field as a communications intern. I have also volunteered at a Shakespeare company where I learned the business of box office and sales. Creatively inclined Studio Arts major, class of 2014, seeking advice and guidance from alumni with careers in preservation, conservation and restoration. I was involved with an art replication project over the summer in Poland and had a fantastic experience. I would love to know if there are more opportunities like that out there and to learn more about what is involved in a preservation/restoration/conservation career. I’m also interested in working abroad, so I’m also eager to hear from people who have international experience in any artistic capacity (i.e. museum administration, residencies, curatorial experience, graduate school, full-time/part-time artist). Do you have any suggestions or tips on how to navigate the international art world? Could you share your professional timeline with me so I can better understand how arts careers can evolve?
