Junior seeking alums to explore fields of digital marketing/art for social change

This is Nicole Zamora, a junior majoring in business and psychology and minoring in creativity, the arts and social transformation. So far, I have identified a deep interest in digital marketing, personal development/advancement, and using art as a vehicle for social change. As I plan for an internship next summer, I would like to connect with people who are in either of those fields to learn more about their experience. I will use these insights to clarify what career path I will further explore this summer and to find out if there is an overlap between any of my interests.

Additionally, feel free to share any internship or career-related opportunities that could help narrow my focus.

Thank you in advance for reading this!

Senior seeks info on solutions-oriented roles in marketing, strategy, consumer behavior or social responsibility

I am a graduating senior majoring in business and economics with a minor in east Asian studies. I studied abroad in Singapore during my junior year taking classes concentrating on marketing, consumer behavior, and international business.

This past summer I interned at a human resources technology startup working in their client services department and I really enjoyed working in the tech and innovation space. Currently, I am a board fellow at the Waltham Chamber of Commerce working on a corporate social responsibility project.

I am looking to apply for entry-level positions that will allow me to develop and apply my qualitative and quantitative skills to create solutions and problem-solve. However, due to my vast interests in marketing, strategy, and social responsibility, I am unsure of what roles would suit my interests and skills. Any advice will be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Business/art history/philosophy senior with background in analytics seeking creative career in brand management

I’m a senior majoring in business with minors in art history and philosophy. I am seeking career opportunities in brand management (particularly in the CPG/F&B industries) but have found it to be quite difficult to break into the field. Any advice about how to break into the industry? My previous experiences have been focused on analytics and consulting ranging from startups to Fortune 100 companies, which is why my resume is getting picked up for much more quantitative than creative roles.

Senior looking to take on entry-level job in publishing, marketing, or digital media

I am a graduating senior looking to tackle an entry-level job ideally in marketing, publishing, or digital media. My internship and work experience have given me a thorough understanding of marketing and sales. However, with my majors being in politics and my minors being in creative writing and environmental studies, my practical experience is a unique blend of disciplines. I am currently a Marketing Assistant at Brandeis International Business School, Social Media Strategist for an environmental nonprofit, and an Amazon Prime Student Ambassador for the school year. I prefer to be busy, which is hopefully evident. My dream has always been to enter the publishing industry because I am a passionate reader and amateur book reviewer. I have found it difficult to get past step one when applying to publishing-related roles, so any advice there is absolutely wanted. I am always finding new ways to blend these passions of mine, but am finding it difficult to find a clear path forward. Any advice and discussion are valuable! Thanks.

Senior interested in healthcare consulting or biotech/pharmaceutical marketing

I’m an HSSP senior interested in healthcare consulting or biotech/pharmaceutical marketing.  Healthcare consulting piqued my interest because of its wide reach and variety, so I’m looking for advice on entering the industry, finding companies with employment opportunities, and other potential career paths where health plays a major role in the company.

For several summers I’ve interned for a biotech company in the sales development and marketing departments. I want to keep my foot in the science and technical details while being part of the communications, marketing, and PR within the company. Similarly, I’m looking to hear more about people’s experiences with their roles, companies of interest/mention, and other pathways to be involved in this industry.

It’s helpful for me to hear people’s stories, so hearing where you got where you currently are and lessons you’ve learned on the way is a great help!

Creative international student interested in business

I am a second-year international student from Jamaica looking to make connections with those working in the fields of international business and marketing. I have always been interested in the creative and business industries and would love to learn more about how to explore and bridge the two. To date, I have only had internship experience working in accounting as an assistant to the credit controller for an agro-producer and in marketing as an executive marketing assistant for some corporate companies in the Caribbean region. These experiences have been very valuable, but I am now looking to apply and further develop the skills that I have garnered through an internship in the U.S. or wider international market. I am curious to see if there are any alumni who have successfully gone about using their creative skills in the international business market. I would greatly appreciate any advice and guidance on how best to navigate the business industry while abroad as an international student in order to gain valuable internship experience and make some useful connections.

Archived Ad: Looking to Gain Marketing Experience

I am a current senior at Brandeis majoring in International and Global Studies with minors in South Asian Studies and Economics. All my life, from my experiences living in India and traveling to numerous other countries, I have developed an immense curiosity of different governments, cultures, and the various problems societies face. I have also focused on development and government and NGOs’ role in promoting it. As a result, I tend to have an international perspective on the issues I care about, often looking at them through an anthropological lens.

Over the past few months, I have become interested in business as well. I would like to pursue an MBA in five to six years from now. In the meantime, I want to employ my communications experience, among other skills, in addition to my curiosity and fields of study, in the private sector. I am keen on working for a large private company, ideally in its marketing department. In the long run, I hope to be involved with multiple businesses in different roles. Some may focus on my areas of study while others are in different industries.

I would appreciate any connections with whom I can get advice and learn about possible opportunities after I graduate in May of 2017. Thanks so much.

Advice Wanted: Trying to Beat the Curve in Marketing

I am currently a junior with a dual major in Business and Psychology and a member of the Women’s soccer team. I had the opportunity to work with a growing business-
to-business company this past summer as the marketing intern and would like
to gain insight into what is the next best step into pursuing a marketing career
after I graduate. I am curious as to whether it is best to intern with more than
one company, or to return to the same company? What do the different roles of marketing entail? I would like to speak with alumni to gather as much knowledge from others’ experiences as I can in furthering my career.

Archived Ad: Chicago opportunities in finance/banking/consulting

I graduated Brandeis in 2012 cum laude with high honors in history. I am currently working at Itadaki (an upscale sushi restaurant on Newbury Street). I really enjoy both working as a manager and doing the back office work assisting them in their finances. Besides my experience at Itadaki I was also a sales/marketing intern at Ifbyphone (a tech startup in downtown Chicago), and an investment analyst intern at Lincoln Investment Planning. I am skilled with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Stata. I have studied Mandarin Chinese for four years, which includes six months both studying and working in Beijing. I would ideally like a career that combines my quantitative and interpersonal skills in the financial, banking, or economic consulting fields in the Chicago metropolitan area. If an alum knows of any appropriate opportunities for someone with my skills and experience, I would love to get in touch.

Archived Ad: Wisdom from the Art World

I am a Studio Art (painter) major graduating this May. I am also the Marketing and Communications intern at Hiatt Career Center, President of the Student Committee for the Rose Art Museum, and a Roosevelt Fellow (peer academic advisor for first year students). I would love to hear from alums and parents who also have BAs in Fine Arts and have pursued careers in visual arts, museums, galleries, arts non-profits and higher education. What kinds of paths did you take to get to where you are today? What cities are best for young artists? As a person dedicated to making art, how did/do you manage to earn a living while making your art? For those who did not go down a studio route, how did you get involved in the museum or gallery world? What kinds of opportunities exist in the marketing and communications fields for the art world?

Motivated and organized Business/International & Global Studies major seeks information about careers in law and marketing. I have had professional experience at LivingSocial, the American Cancer Society and Treater.com. I would love to meet or chat with alumni working in law or marketing and learn about relevant experiences and future opportunities. I’m interested in hearing about how you got to where you are today, and what, if anything you would have done differently. I would also like to speak with those who have pursued a JD or MBA to learn about the application process.
